2008 Membership Meetings (Pizza Nights / Safety Seminars)

February 21, 2008
Title: Mixture Management w/Free Pizza
Time: 6:30pm, Thursday,
Place: Wings of Carolina Flying Club (www.wingsofcarolina.org)

As part of its ongoing safety program, Wings of Carolina is hosting special guest Dr. James Yankaskas and his program on Mixture Management. This event is open to the general public and free pizza and beverages will be provided (see below for registration information).

In addition to reviewing familiar concepts of internal combustion engine operations such as proper leaning and troubleshooting with EGT and CHT, newer concepts will be examined including internal cylinder pressure and boundary layer heat transfer and their effect on fuel efficiency and engine life/reliability.

Jim Yankaskas is a former flight instructor and long time friend of the Wings of Carolina Flying Club. He holds many ratings including ATP, CFII for airplanes, CFI for gliders, and ground instructor certificates. He has a B.S. in Aeronautics and Astronautics from M.I.T. and was a design engineer for Sikorsky Aircraft. Currently, he is serving as the president of Malibu/Mirage Owners and Pilots Association.

He has examined and tested engine out gliding configurations and studied impact G-forces and accident survivability in addition to his current work examining mixture management and engine effects.

Wings of Carolina Flying Club is a 47 year old, volunteer driven/non-profit aviation organization. With nearly 250 members, Wings of Carolina continues its mission of safe, affordable, fun, aviation education and aircraft rentals. Membership in Wings of Carolina is open to the general public. Wings of Carolina is located at the southwestern end of the Sanford Lee County Airport (TTA).

For directions to this event, please see the directions section of the club’s website (www.wingsofcarolina.org).

For registration (assuming that you have not already put in your name at websites allowing registration for the event), please send an email to Paul Wilder (vp@wingsofcarolina.org) and get a confirmation for your number of attendees.
